Become a Councillor

Ever thought about joining the Parish Council?

There are vacancies on the Parish Council at the moment.

Then why not speak up on behalf of others, to improve our services, amenities, recreation facilities and general quality of life in the village. There are vacancies on the Parish Council at the moment.

What’s involved

Councillors have a monthly meeting in the village hall to make decisions about the village and it’s facilities. We manage some of the services and we make plans (both short & long term) for improvements to the village generally. We have a say in planning and development and we work to represent the village’s views to the Borough and County Councils and to the Police Commissioner.

As a councillor, you would attend meetings once a month and have some reading to do to prepare for meetings. This would usually involve looking at the agenda for the meeting, some finance information about the Council’s spending and there are usually some planning applications to consider. At some meetings their might be other letters or reports about certain projects within the village.

Outside of the monthly meeting, you would speak to residents when needed to obtain their views, as and when issues arise. You can put in as much additional time as you like, if you want to get involved with particular projects.  Some councillors are very ‘hands on‘, but it is not a requirement.

No special qualification is required to be a councillor.  Training for new councillors is provided to help you understand the role and responsibilities.

Councillors are not employees of the Council and do not get paid. They give up their time voluntarily, out of their commitment to the Village. Our Councillors do not take expenses.

We are are seeking to fill the vacancies by ‘co-option’, which means there is no requirement for a full formal election process. If you think you would like to join the Parish Council or would like to know more, please get in touch with our Clerk. She is happy to talk to you about the role and what is involved. You are also very welcome to come along to any Parish Council meeting and speak to our Councillors.
