Snettisham Parish Council

FOR CORONAVIRUS UPDATES, SEE THE NEWS SECTION

Snettisham is a pretty seaside village situated between Sandringham and Hunstanton. The village has an excellent community spirit, with many clubs, churches and other organisations.

When Council is full, we have 13 parish councillors who meet monthly. From time to time there are vacancies and these are advertised when they occur; elections do happen, as in 2019, but, between those, most places are filled by co-option. The Parish Council is very active, and works hard to keep the village looking wonderful with help from the many parishioners who are keen to be involved in village life.

Council operates a number of “Support Groups”, each with a lead councillor, supported by other councillors who have an interest in that subject area, and take responsibility for those aspects of council business. The Groups report back to Full Council at its meetings, proposing items for consideration. Finance is the responsibility of all councillors, under the leadership of the Responsible Finance Officer. In addition, there are Working Groups which deal with specific issues or projects. The Standing Orders under which Council operates can be found on the Meetings tab.

An important aspect of any parish council’s activities is its response to planning applications locally, and SPC does its best to respond to all of these. To ensure that your information on such applications is always up to date, it is best to use the Borough Council planning portal for this. All Council’s comments are available there.

Parishioners are welcome to attend Parish Council meetings, which are generally on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm in the Memorial Hall (please check – especially for August and January). Support Groups operate on a more ad hoc basis, but are also open to the public – they take place in the Parish Office at times advertised on the notice board outside the Office.

Council recently added “Councillor Surgeries” to allow more interaction with the Public – however, as the attendance at these, by Members of the Public, was next to nil, Council has agreed for the time being to discontinue this. This is the same for our Open Days.

As well as this website, there is also a facebook page which you can link to from the right hand side (top) of this page, where current posts are displayed. There is often information from local groups, as well as the Borough, County, Police and so on.

In addition, the Parish Office is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 10a.m. to noon, and residents are welcome to visit and speak to the Clerk on any concerns. It should be stressed that there are many aspects of local life which are the responsibility of the Borough or County Councils, but we are always happy to point you in the right direction.
